August 2007

Not too long ago, I bought this really el cheap-o agility set for the dogs. My main aim was to have some weave poles so that I could work with Chester (and Lola) on weaving at home.
My instructor has said that weaving is something that really needs to be practiced more than once a week. And it’s paid off, too; Chester’s weaving has definitely improved, and I can actually get him to sometimes do it perfectly without luring him (and breaking my back bending over).
So what has all that to do with a cat bed, you may ask? What Simba is laying in is the tunnel from the agility set. It was really too flimsy to be useable as a tunnel, to my mind, and the boys just immediately staked it out as one of their favorite places to snooze. Don’t ask me why. My theory is that it’s because it’s orange & it matches them (kidding, kidding).
It drives my husband nuts that we have this thing just laying in the middle of our floor (well, actually, it’s right near the back door). But both boys just love to lay in it. It’s rapidly becoming one of their favorite “beds”, albeit the weirdest one (so far).

Ok, just couldn’t resist that little play on words for you knitters out there. We had a lot of fun taking photos for the SOS vacation photo contest. 10 days, 3 states.
My sock enjoys a Hudson River Cruise

Sock meets one of my online friends

Sock at Gray’s Beach, Cape Cod, MA

Sock gets a little sun

Sock gets even more sun

How did they know what color flowers to plant?

Sock enjoys lobster sandwiches

Sock looks over Newport, RI harbor

Sock enjoys mansions on Cliff Walk

Sock enjoys view

Sock relaxes on sailboat

It was a lot of fun thinking up ways to photograph my socks! I wish I could submit more than one photo to the contest, because I have two I think are really good, and it isn’t easy to decide between them. I’m pretty sure I’ve decided, but I sure wish I could submit them both!

And they know when you are back!
I am lucky; I’ve never had a cat that holds a grudge. People often talk about how their cats give them the cold shoulder after they’ve been away. Not mine! Quite the opposite.
Simba slept with us last night. Pretty much par for the course when we come back from vacation. Not only does he sleep with us, but usually he comes to bed with me.
Gizmo, sadly, no longer sleeps in bed with us. But he did make sure he was in the carrier when I went to bed. And he’s almost frantically glad to see me (although scared of the suitcases). In fact, he was also frantically glad to see me when I got back from grocery shopping this morning. Sadly for Giz, the dogs came back this afternoon too.
Puss & Cleo always seemed to know when we were going away. The boys seemed oblivious for the longest time, despite the fact that I’ve done a lot of traveling the last few years, but they seem to have figured it out now.
