We’ve got a few more photos . . . and more on the way . . . plus some new ones of the boys coming, too.

Lola poses for the camera

Lola’s closeup

Both Lola and Chester love chewing on sticks. This really isn’t such a good idea — they could get splinters, or they could run into something and jam the stick into their mouth (or each other) — yet how do you remove all the sticks from your yard?

We’ve chosen to let them have their sticks. And as you’re about to see, there’s a whole series on the sticks!

It looks here like they’re sweetly laying together, doesn’t it? What they’re really doing is duking it out over the stick.

They’re getting a bit more serious about the stick here. Chester likes to try to take every stick Lola picks up away from her, but sometimes she sticks up for herself. They play together very well, but Chester isn’t much into sharing — anything — not sticks, not toys, not me.

A littler game of tug

Water is one of the few things that Chester doesn’t mind sharing with Lola.

They often remind me of little horses (really little horses!) when they’re playing.

They also remind me a bit of goats . . . or maybe chickens . . . always scrabbling around the yard, looking for something good to eat.

These are such CUTE pictures. I especially like the one where they look so snuggly but are actually fighting over the stick. They make quite the pair, don’t they?

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog while doing a google search on long-haired chihuahua images. i assume lola is a chihuahua? the reason i ask is because she looks STRIKINGLY like my dog Jacques, who, i was told, was a papillon mix. however, after some consideration, and after seeing the shocking resemblance he has to lola, i am convinced he is a long-haired chihuahua/rat terrier mix. i wanted your opinion (and to share w/you how utterly bizarre it is how much they resemble one another!) you can see his pics on http://www.datelinecanine.com, my site. also, do you mind if i post a pic of lola on my page, to show the resemblance? i just can’t believe it! thanks!!

Lola is, actually a purebred long haired chihuahua. Although I think it’s pretty obviously a BYB (backyard breeder), which her serious underbite and large size. But I like them big!
Chester, OTOH, is a mix. We don’t know what he’s mixed with, but when I look at long haired chihuahua photos, he looks all chihuahua to me — except for the floppy ears and the fact that his tail doesn’t curl over his back.
It isn’t easy to figure out what breed they are when you don’t know. As my pet sitter says, Chester’s a wonder dog (as in I wonder what breed he is?).
I am often asked if they’re Papillons (and they do bear many striking resemblances to Papillons) — and also whether they’re littermates (obviously not).

Oh, forgot to mention, Lola graduates from the beginner class today. Unfortunately, everyone but us dropped out of the class & it turned into a series of private lessons . . . which was good, except for the fact that Lola really needs doggy socialization.
The trainer who led the class actually asked if I’d ever considered becoming a trainer . . .
